Four Little Cyclones sign to future college homes

Posted March 2, 2024

Four Little Cyclones put pen to paper on Wednesday to declare their next stop in their academic and athletic careers.

Leah Becker (Golf – Iowa Lakes)

Leah Becker will continue to play golf at Iowa Lakes Community College in the fall. Becker was on the card last spring as the Little Cyclones qualified as a team to the IGHSAU Championships for the first time since 2010. Becker will be a key part of the 2024 Little Cyclones that return all scoring from a year ago.

Brett Burkheimer (Football – Morningside)

Brett Burkheimer was a three-year varsity letterwinner for the Little Cyclones and will continue to play football at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. The versatile offensive lineman also saw action on both sides of the ball, recording 15 tackles as a junior on the 2022 football team – the first Ames team since 2015 to reach the Round of 16 playoffs.

Abbey McGuire (Basketball – Simpson)

Abbey McGuire will move to play basketball at Simpson College. A four-year varsity basketball player for the Little Cyclones, McGuire finished second in rebounding and sixth in scoring on this year’s team. The Little Cyclones finished 13-10, the program’s best mark since a 15-8 mark in the 2017 season.

Morgan Wahl (Basketball – Loras)

Morgan Wahl will continue her basketball playing career at Loras in Dubuque, IA. Wahl finished her season fifth on the roster in scoring after playing in 22 of 23 games this year and helping the Little Cyclones to the program’s best record in eight seasons.
