About Softball

The 2023 season wrapped up the best three-year stretch since the early 2000’s under third-year head coach Meghan Von Behren. Ames finished with a 23-17 record, and 13-3 mark in IAC-North play – a win shy of a divisional title. The Little Cyclones fell to top-ranked and eventual state champion Ankeny Centennial in a regional final. It marked the first time in program history the Little Cyclones had made it to back-to-back regional finals.

Record Season Finish

The Little Cyclones won 65 games over the last three seasons, the best three-year stretch since winning 71 in the three seasons from 2002-04.

Most Career Home Runs

Graduating senior Ireland Buss set the program career home runs record as a junior, finishing with a total of 19. Buss also owns the school’s runs scored and slugging percentage records.

Four-time All-Stater

Senior Ellie Lynch finished her softball career as a four-time All-State player. Lynch was a third-team All-State honoree after her freshman season, second-team after her sophomore campaign, and earned First Team honors each of her final two years at Ames.
