About Girls Basketball
In the 2021-22 season, Ames started with a varsity roster composed of four freshmen and five sophomores in what will be a rebuilding season.
Points of Pride
Historically, Ames’ best season came in 2009 when a Trisha Nesbitt-led Little Cyclone team took down top-ranked and previously undefeated Linn-Mar in the state semifinals before dropping the title game to Sioux City North, 51-45. The Little Cyclones finished with a 23-3 record that year.
Caroline Waite (Bradley) finished with 1,608 career points, passing former leader Barb Bennett on December 18, 2020 with a then-school single-game record 38-point performance.
Caroline Waite (Bradley) then broke her own record in a IGHSAU regional semifinal win with a 42-point tally in what proved to be Waite’s penultimate game in a Little Cyclone jersey.
Ashley Iiams (Drake) also proved to be an effective scorer, collecting a prep career tally of 1,013 points, finishing sixth all-time on the Little Cyclone charts.
