About Boys Cross Country

Ravi Bhave enters his fourth season at the helm of the Ames High boys cross country program. The Little Cyclones qualified three runners to last year’s IHSAA State Championship meet, led by Brennan Bhave’s 51st-place finish. The Little Cyclones open the season with the program’s home invitational, the Kirk Schmaltz Invite, at the Iowa State Cross Country Course on September 5th.

State Titles

The Little Cyclones have won a total of six boys cross country state titles, ranking fourth-most among schools currently competing in the largest IHSAA class.

Team State Meet Qualifications

Ames leads all 4A schools in team state meet qualifications since 1976 – with 37 total.

IHSAA Individual Championships

Vernon Matsen claimed the first individual title in 1939 and was followed by Mark Grover 34 years later in 1973.

2022

State Qualifiers

Ahmed Aldamak and Zachary Lenkaitis were state qualifiers in the 2022 season.
