About Fall & Winter Cheer

Ames High fall cheer performs on the sidelines during the football season and also participates in the ICCA Cheerleading State Championships every November. Fall cheer is made up of approximately thirty cheerleaders divided into one Junior Varsity squad, one Varsity squad, and a competition team. The cheerleaders cheer for home 9th & JV games as well as home/away varsity football games. They also host an annual youth cheer clinic at the high school and participate in various statewide cheer squads such as All-State and Honor Squad. Ames High Winter Cheer is made up of approximately twenty cheerleaders divided into one Junior Varsity squad, and two Varsity squads. The cheerleaders cover over 100 events throughout the regular season, cheering at all Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball games, and Wrestling meets.

Ames High Cheer has won 10 ICCA Cheerleading State Championships.

3-Time All-State Cheerleaders

Approximately 30 cheerleaders are selected each year from across the state out of 200+ candidates. Ames High has had 39 cheerleaders on the team plus 4 additional honorable mentions since the program’s inception in 1991.

Iowa Shrine Bowl Cheerleaders

Shrine Bowl Cheerleaders fundraise for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals then perform at the Shrine Bowl football game in July at UNI.
