Josh Fisher breaks long-standing record, boys swim 6th at IHSAAs
Posted February 15, 2024Boys swim completed the 2023-24 season with a sixth-place finish at the IHSAA State Swimming Championships in Iowa City. The Little Cyclones earned three bronze medals; two individual and one relay en route to a team score of 152 points.
A week earlier, Josh Fisher broke the longest-standing program swim record: the 200 Freestyle. Set by Olympian Lovrenco FraniΔeviΔ at 1:41.36 in 1996, Fisher posted a time of 1:40.97 at the IHSAA District Championships to claim the new spot atop the school leaderboard. Fisher would then add to that record during the preliminary round on Friday night of the state championships, recording a swim of 1:40.32. Fisher would further advance his own existing school record in the 500 freestyle, posting a 4:33.36 in the IHSAA prelims. Fisher would place third in the 500 Free and fourth in the 200 Free.
Teammate Ian McCorkle earned a bronze with a 1:52.85 time in the 200 Individual Medley while the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Evan Feilmeyer-Ian McCorkle-Chris Fisher-Josh Fisher earned an All-American Consideration time of 3:08.14 while taking third in the event.
The Little Cyclones’ sixth-place finish marked the third-straight appearance in the top-10, the first such occurrence since 2016-18.
