About Football

Ames is coming off its first football playoff appearance since 2014 after a 6-3 regular season record in 2022. The Little Cyclones fell to eventual state champion Southeast Polk in the First Round of the IHSAA playoffs. Ames has its new two-year schedule cycle ahead of it. Renewed is the Little Cy-Hawk rivalry that coincides on the Friday night before the Iowa-Iowa State football game. The Little Cyclones will also face CIML foes Waukee, Ankeny Centennial, West Des Moines Valley along with IAC rivals Des Moines Roosevelt, Marshalltown, and Ottumwa each of the next two years. Sioux City East makes an appearance in Week 8 of each of the next two seasons. Dallas Sauser finished seventh all-time in IHSAA career passing yards; accumulating a grand total of 8,290 yards from two years as an underclassman at Grinnell to his junior and senior year campaigns at Ames. Sauser also owns the state record for passing yards in a single game: 590 at Sioux City North on September 23, 2022.
