A week after winning the program’s first regional championship in 14 years, the Little Cyclone girls golf team placed 6th at the IGHSAU Championships at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.

A week earlier, won the Ames IGHSAU Regional site by 22 strokes over No. 8 Linn-Mar. The Little Cyclones shot a 334 at Veenker to earn their spot atop the 10-team regional leaderboard.

After shooting at a 331 at the first day of the IGHSAU Championships – good for fifth place – the Little Cyclones shaved two stokes off on the final day, but still fell into the sixth position in the final team standings.

Emersen Motl placed 17th overall with a 157 (78/79) two-day score to lead the Ames card. Macy Button (32nd, 164) scored an 82 on both days while Elizabeth Duncan recorded an 82/83 split for a total of 165, good for 36th place individually. Leah Becker rounded out the Ames scoring with a 45th-place score of 176. Jessie Lohman (182) and Estelle Wong (184) were also on the card.

Following up a ninth-place finish in 2023, the Little Cyclones improved three spots in the team race while also being the first back-to-back Ames teams to qualify since Ames won back-to-back state titles in 2009 and 2010.
