Ames places two at IGHSAUs, Alexis Winkey sets program’s high-water mark

Posted February 7, 2024

Senior Alexis Winkey and Sophomore Lexa Rozevink both repeated as placewinners at the IGHSAU Championships on Thursday and Friday. At Xtream Arena in Coralville, Lexa Rozevink capped off a terrific sophomore campaign by placing eighth at 120. Rozevink finished fifth at 120 a year earlier and has an opportunity to expand her mark in the upcoming two years.

Winkey finished sixth at 125 and graduates from the Little Cyclone program with 93 all-time victories. A four-year letterwinner and pioneer of the sport in Iowa, Winkey recorded pins in 84 of those 93 victories. That win record will stand as the program-best for at least a year. Rozevink is currently holds 71 wins, but will have two more years to target the 93-win mark and beyond.

Senior Allison Metschke repeated as a state qualifier and earned three team points, as did state tournament newcomer Lauryn Metcalf. The Little Cyclones finished 26th overall in the 160-team tournament.
