Posted May 3, 2023

Ali Frandsen ended a weekend full of rewriting the school record books with two Drake titles in both individual hurdles events.

Frandsen opened the weekend with a scorching 14.33 mark in the 100 M Hurdles to take her first Drake title of the weekend. The 14.33 mark stands as the second-best individual time in program history. Current Ames head coach Erica Lynn Douglas previously held the best Ames finish in the event.

“I’m just really grateful to have this experience and this moment,” Frandsen told the Ames Tribune. “I just made my family proud – that’s the important thing.

Later, in the 400 M Hurdles, Frandsen would follow up with another white flag performance, this time setting a new school record at 1:01.16. That mark currently ranks No. 3 at the national level.

With the two Drake titles, Frandsen joins a small group of just five other athletes to sweep both individual hurdles events in the same year.

A total of three school records were broken over the weekend. Frandsen was a member of the 4×400 M Relay squad; joining Ellie Lynch, Cameron Moon, and Saylor Horras in posting a 3:53.66 for the new top spot. In the 4×200 M Relay; Cameron Moon, Elaina Deardorff, Ellie Lynch, and Ireland Buss would team up to record a 1:42.06 time for the new program record in that event.
