Girls track qualifies six relays to Drake, boys earn 4×100 spot

Posted April 23, 2023

Ames girls track qualified six relays to the 113th Drake Relays, which take place April 26-29 at Drake Stadium’s Blue Oval in Des Moines.

The Little Cyclone girls qualified for the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800, Shuttle Hurdle, and Sprint Medley relays. The Ames boys qualified for the 4×100.

After winning the high school division title in the 2021 Drake Relays edition, the Little Cyclone girls missed on repeating in 2022. The 4×400 relay of Saylor Horras, Ali Frandsen, Cameron Moon and Ellie Lynch recorded the best result a year ago with a second-place showing, just .33 shy of first-place Solon. All four athletes are on the Ames relays card this year.

Additionally, the Little Cyclone girls team placed four qualifiers in six different individual events. Sophia Hatcher (100M), Claire Helmers (3000M), Ali Frandsen (100M Hurdles, 400M Hurdles), and Marley Turk (800M, 3000M, Elite Mile) will all compete for individual crowns for Ames.

On the boys side, the 4×100 team of Michael Brown, Gavin Clouser, Jeffrey Roberts, and Dallas Sauser will compete in the 96-team high school field.
