Three girls wrestlers reach podium in first-ever IGHSAU Championships

The Little Cyclone girls wrestlers recorded top-6 finishes at the first-ever IGHSAU Girls Wrestling Championships in Coralville, IA. The two-day event at Xtream Arena saw 448 wrestlers compete across the 14 weight classes in the first state-sanctioned championship specifically for girls.

Ames entered the weekend with five qualifiers from a team regional runner-up performance a weekend earlier. Alexis Winkey led the way, earning the Little Cyclones 24 total team points en route to a fourth-place finish. Teammate Lexa Rozevink collected 23 team points and finished her week with a spot in fifth-place at 120. Greta Goodman rounded out the Ames placewinners with a sixth-place result at 100.

Collectively, the Little Cyclones finished in 10th place out of 137 scoring teams, ending the tournament with a combined 68 team points.
