Boys wrestling qualifies four, Kyler Hall wins 100th career match

Ames boys wrestling qualified four wrestlers to the 2023 IHSAA State Wrestling Championships over the weekend in the Carlisle District. Three bids came via district titles and one came via second-place finish, securing a top-three spot needed for advancement.

The Little Cyclones won district titles at 126, 195, and 285. At 126, Jabari Hinson collect a pair of pins en route to his district title and will enter the state competition with a 41-3 season record. Danarii Mickel advanced to 28-7 on the season with three victories on Saturday, including a fall in 4:53 to secure the crown at 195.

Kyler Hall collected a district title at heavyweight and in the process won his 100th and 101st career victory to join the 100-win club at Ames High. Hall was the Little Cyclones lone state qualifier a year ago and will return to Wells Fargo Arena to close out his high school wrestling career.

Jackson Winkey collected a fourth bid to the state tournament for the Ames program. After falling in the championship semifinals, Winkey won three matches on the back-side to advance to the state tournament.
