Football to appear in first Round of 16 since 2014

Ames football clinched an IHSAA Class 5A football playoff bid after finishing the regular season with a 6-3 record. The Little Cyclones entered the final week of the regular season at No. 8 in the state’s RPI standings – nearly all but assuring a postseason appearance with a win or loss.

After falling to No. 6 Johnston, the Little Cyclones dropped to No. 15 and will face second-ranked Southeast Polk Friday night in the Round of 16.

The Little Cyclones feature the state’s top passer in Dallas Sauser, who currently leads all classes with a total of 3,088 yards on the season and enters the postseason with a career 8,062 passing yards – currently eighth on the state’s all-time list.

Ames also features the state’s leading receiving in Jalen Lueth. Lueth leads all classes in receiving yards (1,242) and is the reception leader in class 5A with 74 on the season.

Southeast Polk won the state championship a year before and features one of the top offensive lineman in the country in five-star tackle Kadyn Proctor.

The game is set for Friday, October 28th with a 7:00 PM kickoff time. Tickets must be purchased online at https://www.iahsaa.org/tickets/. There will be no sales at the gate.
