Ames High Facility Dedications
Posted September 2, 2022The celebration continues at the new Ames High School with the dedication of two new facilities, the Harrison Barnes Gymnasium and Court and the Dan Flannery Pool. Both events take place in September.
On Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 7 pm join us for the dedication of the Harrison Barnes Gymnasium and Court. We welcome Harrison Barnes back to Ames to celebrate his contributions to Ames High Athletics and the Ames community. Barnes’ commitment to giving back to youth and community is part of his continued mission, whether in Ames or the NBA city where he lives. In 2014, Barnes earned the inaugural Alvin Attles Community Impact Award in recognition of his efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of underserved youth in the Bay Area when he was a member of the Golden State Warriors. He is continually volunteering for charitable events, working with local Boys and Girls Clubs, and finding unique ways to interact with the community. Photos with Barnes will be available at the conclusion of the ceremony.
On Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 2 pm, join us again for the dedication of the Dan Flannery Pool. Flannery led Ames to an unprecedented run of success, especially with girls’ swimming where they won four-straight titles from 2010-13 and again from 2015-18. Ames also placed second in 2014 and 2019. His eight state titles on the girls’ side are tied for the state record. Flannery also led the boys’ team to a championship in 2018, further solidifying himself as one of the top coaches in swimming state history. He effectively prepared Ames High athletes for collegiate swimming, helping many to compete in Division I, II, and III programs. The Flannery family will be on hand to help us celebrate this state-of-the-art facility. We’re excited to honor all of Dan’s accomplishments with the Ames High swim programs and the Ames swim community.
