Former Ames High and Iowa State standout Erica Lynn Douglas is back for a third season at the helm of the Ames High track and field programs. In 2023, the girls side recorded a state runner-up finish, the program’s best result since winning a title in 1996. The result also marked the first time since 1995-99 that the program recorded five-straight top-10 finishes. Ali Frandsen swept the individual hurdles events at both Drake and the IGHSAU Championships. The current Iowa Hawkeye also was the anchor for the state champion 4x400M Relay team with Cameron Moon, Saylor Horras, and Ellie Lynch.

The girls track and field program has won five state outdoor titles in its history. The Ames boys program has a storied tradition with 20 state team titles and 125 individual titles – more than any other program.

In 2022, Corey Phillips threw 195-10 in the discus achieving a new school record and runner-up at the State Meet plus 7th on the Iowa All-Time list.
